“The Halo Project – An
Angelic Christmas Musical” and “The Halo Project
2 – An Angelic Easter Musical” are my attempts
to take the ordinary out of the two most significant, extraordinary
events that have happened on planet earth and, dare I say,
in the heavenlies. But I needed to tell these stories through
a different set of eyes. I needed to find a “hook” that
would capture the heart and mind of the mature saint who has
heard the story too many times to count, and yet simple, funny,
and entertaining enough to draw a dear person that hasn’t
darkened the doors of a church for a long, long time. Through
prayer, the study of God’s Word, and taking a good look
at the culture around me, (i.e. TV, magazines, movies, even
lawn ornaments
and jewelry!) I was stunned to see how curious the world is
about the spirit world. I had found it! The common element
that would link a Biblical truth – the reality of angels
in an unseen, but active, spiritual world – with the
world’s curiosity was clear. Angels! I would tell the
Christmas and Easter stories through the eyes of angels! The
end result? “The Halo Projects.”
My prayer and careful
intent in writing “The Halo Projects” has
been that these musicals would focus on Jesus Christ – the Lord
and Creator of all angels and men – and that He alone would be
worshiped. Consequently, these pieces are not a commentary on the doctrine
of angels. However, great care was taken to be true to God’s
Word about the doctrine of angels. Throughout the writing process I
made scripts
available for a number of my pastors to read and edit. Their job was
to make sure that Biblical integrity was maintained. Thus, “creative
license” was used sparingly and carefully. The musicals are,
of course, fictional, but you will find that the two projects are packed
full of Scripture. The power of these works is in the Word!
Finally,
my life’s ambition as a worshiper is to touch heaven.
My life’s ambition as a servant of Christ is to transform the
earth. It is my passionate prayer that through these musicals, praises
will
echo through the halls of heaven and will, at the same time, serve
to transform the precious souls of earth.
